Bournemouth to welcome succession of new events, festivals and conferences

A succession of new events, conferences, expos and festivals are set to take place this year at Bournemouth International Centre and Bournemouth Pavilion, attracting thousands of visitors, industry professionals and delegates to the south coast.

The UK Dance Championships kicked off the year with competitors from Europe, Asia and America, all vying for top places in Latin and Ballroom. The event is a firm fixture in the dance industry calendar where some of the best performers converge and compete. Over the three-day event around 4,500 competitors and visitors from around the world attended.

In March, the Green Party will be holding its spring conference between 3-4 March. 600+ delegates are expected to attend the conference, its core policy-setting workshops and plenaries. There will also be a topical programme of panels and fringes, pre-election training and a social programme. The conference is open to the public for non-members who wish to find out more about the Green Party. A panel debate on Brexit and Energy will be free to attend on the Saturday session.

The Association for Palliative Medicine of Great Britain and Ireland (APM) follows with their annual Supportive and Palliative Care Conference. Showcasing new procedures in patient care, masterclasses and ‘state-of-the-art’ approaches to care, the event will attract 500+ professionals from around the UK.

Delegates from one of the UK’s largest women’s voluntary organisations return from 19-21 March for the annual conference of the Association of Inner Wheel Clubs in GB&I. An estimated 2,000 people are set to come together to celebrate their successes and highlight the numerous charitable events and causes the organisation supports. The programme also includes a golf tournament, organised walks, commercial and charity stalls and features special guest speaker Helen Sharman OBE, the first UK Astronaut and Briton in space.

The Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) will be holding their annual conference from 11-12 July 2018. This is the UK’s leading conference for professionals working in public finance and accountancy. This year’s theme is Talent, Technology, Transformation: Mapping the Digital Future. 800+ delegates will hear from global economists, thought-leaders, tech pioneers and change management experts as they discuss and debate the opportunities and challenges presented by the impact of technology upon the public sector. Also in July, Future Cheer International – Europe’s largest cheerleading and dance competition – returns to Bournemouth International Centre for its tenth year, bringing 21,000 competitors and visitors to the region.

In the autumn, returning and new clients include the British Association for Critical Care Nurses, the Society for Acute Medicine, College of Podiatry and British Society of Interventional Radiology for their annual conferences and exhibitions.

The Arts University Bournemouth, Bournemouth University, Anglo European Chiropractic College and National Citizens Service will also be hosting their graduation ceremonies this year attracting more than 15,000 people.

In addition to business events and conferences, there are also new and returning public expos – providing entertainment across a range of genres appealing to food and drink fans and hobby-goers alike. Entoyment’s exciting wargames event, Beachhead 2018, returns for its third year on Saturday 17 February 2018. With a selection of participation and demonstration games, alongside an excess of traders exhibiting the best items the hobby has to offer, this event is billed as a must for anyone with an interest in this field.

The 9th Annual Big Bournemouth Beer Festival is set to take place from 30 March-1 April 2018, with a range of novelty beers, traditional real ales, cider and Perry and a wine bar. And the UK’s biggest cheese touring festival Cheese Fest UK is coming to Bournemouth for the first time. Taking place on Saturday 7 April 2018 visitors will be able to choose from an array of incredible flavours from some of the UK’s best cheese traders.

The good news continues for food and drink fans with the Naked Wines Summer Tour on Sunday June 24.

Following shortly after will be Prosecco Festival, the UK’s original and largest touring festival, landing at Bournemouth Pavilion from Friday 13-Saturday 14 July 2018. The festival will features 40 different types of prosecco, fizz, cocktails and also Peroni for the non-fizz drinkers, live entertainment and Italian Street Food.

And one of the most anticipated events for aviation fans, Bournemouth Air Festival, takes place from 30 August-2 September. Since its launch in 2008, the event has drawn millions of spectators and is one of the country’s top tourist events. With its beach top location and delicious hospitality events, Bournemouth International Centre’s vantage has one of the best views in town.

“The events scene in Bournemouth is as buoyant and diverse as ever,” says BH Live’s Director of Venues and Events, Pat Coyne.

“2018 has kicked off with a host of new and returning events which will, over the course of the year, attract thousands of delegates and visitors to the town. As well as delivering a platform for learning, networking, collaboration and enjoyment, events such as these, hosted in our venues, support more than 4,500 local jobs. In addition, we predict that they will also generate in the region of £100 million in economic benefit for the town over the course of the next three years.”
