Bumper scholarly event returns to Bournemouth

Niche association UKSG is back in Bournemouth 11-13 April 2016 with another dynamic, fairground attraction to engage and entertain around 900 delegates from the UK and around the world.

UKSG is a registered charity that brings together a small, but globally influential group of research academics, librarians, publishers and intermediaries and technology vendors in the scholarly information community. Of a total membership of nearly 500 organisations, one third are based outside the UK.

The annual conference is a major three-day event in the scholarly communications calendar, with a massive agenda, including plenary and breakout sessions, lightning talks and an exhibition. The entire plenary is being streamed live by IET.tv.

The conference covers a wide range of topics relevant to publishers, content providers, librarians and intermediaries and offers a great opportunity for them to keep up to date with trends, get practical information and network.

There’s also a full social programme incorporating a dinner quiz, a circus-themed reception, gala dinner and disco, topped off with a funfair, complete with dodgems, swing boats, hook-a-duck and more.

Our conference has to cover a lot of ground in three days and can be quite demanding for our delegates,”

says UKSG Business Manager Alison Whitehorn.

“To make their visit a little less hectic weve created a smart conference app that gives them everything they need to plan their day, and they can view slides and footage on any topics theyve missed or want to revisit. Our social programme gives them something to look forward to at the end of the day, where they can really relax and have fun.

The last time we came to Bournemouth International Centre, we amazed everyone, including ourselves, by setting up a funfair inside the venue. Thanks to the event team, it went so well we decided to do it all over again this year. Apart from its great coastal location, the venue is the perfect place to push the boundaries and create something really special for our delegates. Everythings right there, under one roof, which brings a real buzz to the event.

It’s fantastic to be welcoming UKSG back for a second time,

says BH Live Director of Venues Pat Coyne.

Their event is packed from start to finish, and a great example of how organisers are looking to add value and a unique touch to their events to make their delegates feel extra special. We’re frequently working with clients to develop themed and bespoke dining, entertainment and delegate experiences that give an extra reason for people to make time to attend their events. With more of these in the pipeline this year, it’s a really exciting time for us.”

UKSG’s 39th Annual Conference opens on Monday 11 April at 8.30am.
