Fabulous café and spa makeover begins at Littledown

Littledown, one of the region’s busiest leisure centres is getting a spa and café makeover.

Hot off the heels of a £1.7m investment to expand its health and wellbeing facilities, a new café, diner and spa relaxation area will be opening soon to improve the overall customer experience, encourage more people to visit and continue to provide world class facilities for all at affordable prices.

The centre is managed by BH Live, a social enterprise and trust, in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council.

Last year 1.2 million annual attendances were recorded and more than a quarter of a million people visited its Terrace café and bar.

Bournemouth Borough Council and BH Live recently invested £1.7m, resulting in an extra 200,000 visits and greater participation from families and young people. Its outdoor artificial training pitches also had a complete refurbishment.

Starting this month, work begins in the café. New kitchen and service counters will provide an improved customer experience, seating will create fresh ambience and a larger soft play area for the under-5s will boost the centre’s play offer for pre-school aged children. The new café will open with a fresh new menu offering more choice, variety and healthy options.

Café improvements are scheduled to complete in January 2017. During this time customers will still be able to purchase hot and cold drinks and snacks from a temporary café. Hot street food will also be available from a pop-up kitchen in its Terrace Bar.

The spa is also undergoing a total transformation in partnership with the Council. It will consist of a new sauna, steam, bio sauna and aroma room, koubel douche and lounge area. New showers, tiling and mood lighting will create a soothing and relaxing atmosphere in which to enjoy the spa’s health and wellbeing benefits. The swimming pool will temporarily close during December 2016 for essential maintenance and repairs. Both the pool and the spa will open towards the end of December 2016.

“We are delighted to see these exciting projects get underway and look forward to unveiling the new café and spa in the next couple of months,” says Colette Kiernander, BH Live’s Divisional General Manager.

Information about these projects and alternative swimming and spa facilities during closures can be found at bhliveactive.org.uk.

During these works, the centre will remain open and other activities including the gym and studio/main hall classes will be on as usual.

Regular updates and pictures will also be posted on the centre’s social media channels.
