Get more active in the New Year

Following on from a successful application to Sporta earlier this year, we will be launching a new regular and free walking event in Kinson on Sunday 24 January 2016 at Turbary Park Common.

This is an exciting new project which we have initiated in partnership with Great Run Local, Sport England, Bournemouth Borough Council, Live Well Dorset and West Howe Healthy Helpers.

Every Sunday at 9.30am there will be the opportunity to take part in a 2km or 5km walking course around Turbary Park Common.

Everyone will be welcome to come along to this free session to get out and about in the fresh air and enjoy the many benefits that walking brings.

We are encouraging everyone who wishes to take part to register at www.greatrunlocal.org/register to receive a wristband. Participants are also encouraged to ‘like’ the Great Local Run Bournemouth Facebook page to keep up to date with the project.

The event has been designed to encourage more people to take part in physical activity, and everyone is welcome to come along and stroll, walk, amble or even jog the route if they wish.

The course is suitable for pushchairs too and people are encouraged to take part with friends and family or on their own. Dogs are welcome too.

There is also a new opportunity for people living in the local area to take part in a weekly ‘Energy Circuit’ class at Howecroft Community Centre. Starting on Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 January 2016, sessions will take place every Tuesday at 10.00am and Thursday at 5.45pm and will cost just £1 per session, payable at the start of the class. All ages (16+) and abilities welcome.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, timekeeper or marshal for the walking event or would like more information about the class at Howecroft Community Centre then please contact Kate Rogers at kate.rogers@bhlive.org.uk or Michelle Borthwick at michelle.borthwick@bhlive.org.uk.
